has increased in land, water and air. In air there is much pollutants due to
smoke from factories and vehicles. In water there is so much pollution due to
sewage wastes thrown into the rivers and ponds. In food there is so much
pollution because of use of fertilizers and pesticides.
Over and above, due to modern
lifestyle and facilities, people sleep late in night and get up late in the
morning which destroys their natural
bodily routine and digestion
cycle.
Secret to Good Health
There is no possibility of one's becoming
regulated, if one eats too much or eats too little, sleeps too much or does not
sleep enough. Regulation and eating food which is good for health. He who is
regulated in his habits of eating, sleeping, recreation and work can mitigate
all material pains by practicing the yoga system.
Systematic
efforts to direct thoughts, feelings and action towards the attainment of one’s
GOAL. We need to regulate to achieve any goal in the life.
1. Sleep
Our
digestion cycle works with the sun, while the sun is in the sky it is easy to
digest food and when sun sets then digestion is difficult, so best time to give
rest to the body is between 9pm to 4 am.
According
to Ayurveda,
3 hours of rest between 9 -12 pm in
night is equivalent to 6 hrs. Rest.
12 – 3 am is equivalent to 3 hrs. Rest
3 – 6 am is equiv. to 1.5 hrs. Rest.
After 6 am sleep causes diseases
Early
to bed, early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise. – Benzamine
Franklin
If one sleeps more one becomes lazy
and if one sleeps less one becomes crazy.
Train yourself to sleep and rise early.
Key to sound mind and body is a good
night’s rest and an early jumpstart to your day.
2. Food
We should take food according to our
hunger and take your meals only at scheduled times and do not eat in between
the meals. We should chew the food nicely.
ü
Too much eating
causes sleep
ü
Too less causes weakness
ü
Eat which is
healthy, nourishing
ü
Don’t eat junk
food, too oily, too fatty
We
become what we eat….
Our mind becomes what type of food we
eat. Many times you might have seen also if we eat heavy food we start feeling
dull. When we eat food which is a product of violence, exploitation then it
causes us misery.
Short
Story: Sadhu eating food
which is cooked by a lady who had stolen all the ingredients.
Once there was a sadhu who was
travelling to visit different holy places. He lived a simple life of
truthfulness and utter dependence on God by begging food house to house and
taking rest under a tree at night. Once he went to a simple hut for begging for
food, that was the house of thieves. When he was standing at the door, a lady
came and requested the sadhu to kindly come inside and be seated to accept the
food cooked by her.
The lady being respectful to
the sadhu brought all the preparations and served in a golden plate. The sadhu
was surprised to see golden plate in such a small hut. He was sumptuously fed
and was satisfied with the meal. The lady asked him to take some rest. The
sadhu took rest and had to move to next destination. So, he left without
informing the lady. The lady when she saw the sadhu has already left, noticed
that the golden plate in which the sadhu had his lunch is not seen. She doubted
may be this sadhu has stolen it, so she immediately went out to find this sadhu.
After walking some distance she found him and stopped him asking” You are a sadhu.
How can you steal my golden plate? You are supposed to be detached from worldly
things. The sadhu could not believe it, he said “What are you talking? Just let
me check my sack.” And he found the plate inside. He himself was surprised. He
said “it’s impossible. I live a life of simplicity, truthfulness and honesty. I
don’t remember when I brought it from your home. Let me think.” The sadhu then
thought there must be something wrong. He asked her “What is the profession of
your husbands? How can you have a golden plate living in a hut?” The lady
replied. ”My dear sir, I am ashamed to reveal that my husband and son, both are
thieves. Everything we’ve in our home is actually stolen by them including the
food ingredients.” The sadhu then understood and said, “See! Because the food I
ate was actually stolen and cooked with the mentality of robbery. It has crept
into me and unconsciously I stole your golden plate. Please take it back. I
don’t need it. In fact it’s an obstacle to my simple living.”
Lacto-vegetarian food is the best.
