Short Story: Sadhu eating food which is cooked by a lady who had stolen all the ingredients.

Once there was a sadhu who was travelling to visit different holy places. He lived a simple life of truthfulness and utter dependence on God by begging food house to house and taking rest under a tree at night. Once he went to a simple hut for begging for food, that was the house of thieves. When he was standing at the door, a lady came and requested the sadhu to kindly come inside and be seated to accept the food cooked by her.

The lady being respectful to the sadhu brought all the preparations and served in a golden plate. The sadhu was surprised to see golden plate in such a small hut. He was sumptuously fed and was satisfied with the meal. The lady asked him to take some rest. The sadhu took rest and had to move to next destination. So, he left without informing the lady. The lady when she saw the sadhu has already left, noticed that the golden plate in which the sadhu had his lunch is not seen. She doubted may be this sadhu has stolen it, so she immediately went out to find this sadhu. After walking some distance she found him and stopped him asking” You are a sadhu. How can you steal my golden plate? You are supposed to be detached from worldly things. The sadhu could not believe it, he said “What are you talking? Just let me check my sack.” And he found the plate inside. He himself was surprised. He said “it’s impossible. I live a life of simplicity, truthfulness and honesty. I don’t remember when I brought it from your home. Let me think.” The sadhu then thought there must be something wrong. He asked her “What is the profession of your husbands? How can you have a golden plate living in a hut?” The lady replied. ”My dear sir, I am ashamed to reveal that my husband and son, both are thieves. Everything we’ve in our home is actually stolen by them including the food ingredients.” The sadhu then understood and said, “See! Because the food I ate was actually stolen and cooked with the mentality of robbery. It has crept into me and unconsciously I stole your golden plate. Please take it back. I don’t need it. In fact it’s an obstacle to my simple living.”

Lacto-vegetarian food is the best.
